Two Pocket Card by Kerrie Gurney

Hi Kerrie here with a clever card for you. I love creating this card for special occasions, you can get everyone to sign the tags or you can replace one of the tags with a gift card.
It is super easy to create with just a single sheet of  8.5" x 11.3/4" (A4 for us Aussies) cardstock.

fold cardstock in half long side

undo and fold in half short side

 

unfold and cut the side into the middle fold line

fold the bottom right corner up to the centre fold line

 

 

fold the top left corner down approx 1" to 1.5" from center fold line

 

fold the left top side over to the right

 

fold the whole bottom half up

 

and fold left side to the back, this gives you your pockets...easy :)

 

place whole card excluding the back flap in Extra Loren embossing folder

 

Emboss

 

Sand whole from of card using sanding block to bring out the core colour

 

Place tape as show and adhere into place

 

Die cut 1 Fantasia Dazzling Doily Die and cut 1 third off and use the bigger half on the front of the card

Cut Tags to fit pockets 1 x 5.1/4" x 2.1/2" 1 x 5 3/4" x 3", cut some pennants with scrap paper and die cut a label using Victorian Rectangle Nesting Die, embellish with flowers, chipboard butterflies and crystal gemstones

Hope springs eternal doesn't it? Dad is still with us, although growing weaker each day. He has not eaten since Sunday, but he ate well then. My mom fed him, she came to see him at the hospital and he welcomed her with open arms. It was beautiful and heart breaking. She has been by his side since and I know that for me it's been healing. Something good did come out of dad's illness.

It's just a matter of time, I know that...but we all still keep looking at anything as a sign of hope, even though in reading all the literature provided by Hospice I know that he's following the natural path towards leaving this world.

 But as I've said before, he's a fighter. He will not go gentle into that good night.

30 Minute Project by Bridget Louw

Hi Bridget here again with another quick and easy project to make,using an array of wonderful Couture Creations products.

 

Every now and again I need to make a quick project in a hurry and this is my favourite “go-to” project. It is not heavily embellished and uses only one piece of 12” cardstock and one sheet of patterned paper. Thanks to the dies and embossing folders from Couture Creations this project takes under 30 minutes start to finish.

Cut your 12” sheet of cardstock in half, so 2 pieces 6” x 12”. 

Score both pieces at 4” & 8”. 

Place some Double Sided Tape (C0721984) behind the end panel of the one piece and overlap with the first panel of the second piece to create one long concertina.

To decorate each panel, cut 5 pieces from the patterned paper, measuring 3 7/8” x 5 7/8” each. The paper I used for this project already had 6 pieces measuring 4”x6” so I just trimmed them slightly smaller.

Using the Nesting Dies: Ovals (C0723045) I cut out the 2^nd largest scalloped oval from 2 of the panels to put a photo behind. I die cut another oval from another small piece of patterned paper and embossed it with the Raphael embossing folder to decorate the first panel.

All that is left to do is to decorate each of the panels with ribbon, alphabet stickers etc. 

30 Minutes start to finish and your project is done.

YOUNG WOMEN CORNER: CATCH THE WAVE CATCH PHRASE

One of our young women's FAVORITE mutual activities was always game nights.

They had so much fun bringing their favorite board games and playing together while socializing and munching down on treats.

During one of my last planning sessions with the girls they decided that they wanted to plan another game night, 

but rather than playing the standard board games, they wanted to create their own original game.

As they brainstormed ideas for their game, they decided they wanted it's content to be more "church related".

Even though I have switched wards since, 

I loved their idea of creating an original game and decided to create a quick and fun activity based on their idea.

One of the girls all time favorite games to play together was Catch Phrase.

(I don't know what it was about that game, but they seriously could have played it for hours!)

I decided to create a play on words of the title Catch Phrase, and came up with

 "Catch the Wave Catch Phrase" 

The title and content comes from Elder Nielson's talk in General Conference titled, "Catch the Wave" (see here) . 

His talk focused on the importance of missionary work. 

The game I created is played almost exactly like the original Catch Phrase, but the words are focused on missionary work.

Below are a few downloads including the rules, a simple game board, and 120 different words and phrases to guess!

Even though I am posting this as a young women activity I think

this could also be a fun game to play in a family home evening type setting.

Again the rules are almost the same as the original catch phrase, however, 

instead of passing around a disk with words, I created words to cut out and draw from a pile. 

The team not holding a word in their hand at the end of the timer, scores a point.
